Ken Burns did a bang up job with that series.

Gods&Generals
Febuary 21, 2003
My how the timing of this movie coincides with recent topics. I just saw the first previews of this movie tonight. Many of the same actors who were in Gettysburg are in Gods & Generals.

PREMISE:

Based on the events leading up to the Battle of Gettysburg, spotlighting events in the Eastern Theater of the American Civil War. It follows the personal struggles and triumphs of Robert E. Lee, James Longstreet, Joshua Chamberlain, Winfield Scott Hancock, and it's main figure: Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson, through their own eyes. As the story moves from John Brown's Raid at Harper's Ferry to Second Manassas, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, and finally as a climax Stonewall Jackson's tragic death.

Taking Martin Sheen's place as the immortal and beloved CS General Lee, renowned Oscar winner Robert Duvall takes on his dream role of playing Lee. Said "was one of the best sets he's ever worked on." (Access Atlanta)

Jeff Daniels has reprised his role as Chamberlain, after garnering more fame since 1993.

Reprising his role from Gettysburg, Mallon has also spent the years reenacting as Mallon, and acting in several films.

Supporting Actors

Key: link beside listing= link to picture * = means resuming role

MIRA SORVINO as Fanny Chamberlain (Oscar winner )

*C. THOMAS HOWELL as Tom Chamberlain

* KEVIN CONWAY as Buster Kilrain

* JOSEPH FUQUA Jeb Stuart

JOHN PROSKY as Lewis Armistead (replacing Richard Jordan who died in 1993)

*COOPER HUCKABEE as Harrison- (I don't think that this character is in the book, but if they invented a scene for Booth, they may have invented a scene for this main character from Gettysburg)

SEAN PRATT as Dr. Hunter McGuire (he....)

KALI ROCHA as Mary Anna Morrison Jackson (....and she, have some very good scenes in the book, real life for that matter. BTW- remember the annoying flight attendant Ben Stiller rants at in "Meet The Parents"? That's her. )

The Question: Who plays Mrs. Mary Custis Lee? The book has a "dramatic moment" between Robert and Mary and she shows up a few times. I'd like to know who's playing her!

The Generals  ....and Lesser Supporting

BILLY CAMPBELL as Gen. Pickett (Billy Campbell is the TV star from "Once and Again" and "Enough" with J.Lo.)

CHRIS CONNER as John Wilkes Booth (scroll for 6 pictures, Booth is NOT in the book, but was added for dramatic effect / extra storyline. He may well be a supporting lead, but I have no way of knowing )

ALEX HYDE WHITE as Gen. Ambrose Burnside

* ROYCE APPLEGATE as Gen. Kemper

MAC BUTLER as Gen. Joseph Hooker

* PATRICK GORMAN as Gen. John Bell Hood

FRED GRIFFITH as Gen. Robert Rodes

JEREMY LONDON as Capt. Sandie Pendleton

LESTER KINSOLVING as Gen. William Barksdale

JAMES PARKS as Gen. George McClellan

WILLIAM SANDERSON as Gen. A.P. Hill

* MORGAN SHEPPARD as Gen. Isaac Trimble

RICHARD BEKINS as Gen. Oliver Otis Howard

ROBERT KNOTT as Gen. D.H. Hill

CARSTEN NORGAARD as Gen.. Darius Couch

*JONATHAN MAXWELL as Capt. Ellis Spear (had an extra role in Gettysburg)

* JAMES PATRICK STUART as Col. Edward Porter Alexander (did a good job in Gettysburg, should be the same in this film)

MATT LINDQUIST as Col. Heros Von Borcke (Tag along with JEB Stuart? They probably think they need another int'l soldier.)

* BO BRINKMAN as Maj. Walter Taylor

STEPHEN SPACEK as Capt. James Power Smith (FYI- Nephew of Sissy Spacek)

ROSEMARY KNOWER as Mary Lincoln (I'm guessing she'll be around)

The Question- What happened to Moxley Sorrel (Longstreet's Aide)? And more importantly how bout Gen. Winfield Scott, John Brown,. and Abraham Lincoln? There's the raid on Harper's Ferry (which couldn't have occurred wihtout a John Brown) and Robert E. Lee had to sa y "no" to someone, that someone was Winfield Scott. And Lincoln? Easily an important character. I don't think he appears in the book, but according to several articles they added a scene where Lincoln sees a play starring John Wilkes Booth. They also have his wife in this movie. Mrs. Lincoln without a Mr.? Hmmm.... Hope he has a good beard and hat!

Editec,
Oh what I would give to be in a private viewing room with you and exchange opinions for this movie. If you were here in KC I would gladly make a weekend event of it with you Smiley

That would be a blast, Gar.

Or, seeing as how Guin has expressed some interest in reviving my  Bastille Day party event, maybe we could make it happen in Maine.

In July, Maine is usually the best place in the lower 48 to spend some time. Warm in the days, cool at night.

I haven't got bedrooms, but I've certainly got land to camp on, and for those whose fortunes are up to it, there's no shortage of beautiful bed and breakfasts.

If you want to have a convention why not somewhere more convenient for most member like western Tennessee?
